Yesterday at my internship it was just Stasia and I in the office, something that has never happened before since I started interning there. My only task while at work yesterday was to stuff wedding invitations for an upcoming wedding this October. Because I have done this before I was able to use my knowledge and I actually ended up finding a mistake that would have been a big problem if I did not point it out. In each wedding invitation there is a RSVP letter that can be sent back to everyone at Exquisite Events. On these RVSP envelops there should be a stamp so that the guest going to the wedding do not have to buy their own stamp. After stuffing about 10 wedding invitations it hit me that there were no stamps on the RSVP envelopes, I was a little cautious to tell Stasia that she had missed the stamps but it was something that needed to be said and she was happy I told her when I did.

Around 3:30 Stasia left the office leaving me by myself at Exquisite Events. This was nice feeling because I could be more relaxed and it also felt nice to know that Stasia trusted me with closing up the office.

Today at my internship I did a variety of different things. I started off by editing the invitation mailing address and the rehearsal dinner mailing addresses. The client sent us the guest list of everyone they wish to go, I had to change the names from Bill and Jane Geary to Mr. and Mrs. Bill Geary. Next I had to go through and update the prospectus for an upcoming wedding. Lynell had made the edits and I had to go through and change what she wanted, updating the prospectus is very important for exquisite events so that they know the progress they have made and what they still need to do. Next I had to go through the main contact list that is also connected to Stasia's Blackberry and edit the contacts so that their is no overlaps of names or companies, and that all of the information attached to each contact is correct.

Today during my internship it was just Lynell and I in the office so there were not any distractions or a lot of people coming in and out of the office. I started my day off by updating the prospectus for an upcoming wedding this June. Stasia had gone through the previous prospectus and made some edits and then I went in and changed what she wanted. This is always exciting because by updating the prospectus I am able to see how Stasia and the client are knocking away at making the clients wedding everything they are looking for. Next I went through the vendor contact list and continued to add the emails of all the contacts. Even though this task of going in and adding each email is tedious it is extremely important because it is necessary to have every form of communication ready when trying to get in touch with the vendors.

Tuesday for my internship I worked on putting together photographs that would be featured on the website Stylemepretty.com. On the website when you click on the Exquiste Events Portfolio link, six pictures now come up that I chose from 3 different weddings. Next went through the vender contact list that I had been working on for the past two weeks and made updates from Stasia and Lynells editing. It was definetly a productive day at work and hopefully my next day at work will be too.

Yesterday at my internship I did not work more on the wedding photographs for the website, but I did work on tasks that were equally important and just as fun. I started my day off by creating a hard cover book to be displayed at a venue site in Palm Beach and also as a promotional piece to show to possible clients. The wedding that was displayed in the book was a wedding that took place at the venue site in Palm beach. It was my job to go through all of the pictures of wedding and pick and choose what pictures should be displayed in the book in a way that tells a story. I then had to go back in and design the way the book should look, the boarder for the pictures, the way the pictures should be displayed, and also include the color tint of the pages that the photos would be placed on. I used a great website called mpix.com to do all of this at a low price. Next I had to design post cards using pictures from the Palm Beach wedding, and a wedding that took place at Mount Hope Farm in Bristol. This task was challenging at times to make all the pictures fit together in a collage like way, and even though it was a challenge it was still fun to put together the post card and the book.

This past Tuesday was an exciting day for me at Exquistie Events. I started off by stuffing the anniversary cards that I had designed at the beginning of my internship, I am hoping that when I go into work next time I will seal, stamp and send them out. My next task was also exciting. Lynell gave me the responsibility of going through past wedding photographs and picking and chosing the photographs that will be placed on the website, and the order of which they will be placed. I also had to come up with a creative way to display the color pallate of each wedding. I still have a lot more weddings to work through, so hopefully I will also be working on that the next time I go to my internship. This past weekend there was also a destination wedding in Bahamas that Stasia was flown down for, I personally did not have much involvent in that wedding but it is still exciting for me to see how much one can travelwith a career as a wedding planner.

Yesterday was my first day back at my internship since I went to Key West for Spring Break. I was excited to get back into the routine and see all of the other girls. However, Stasia and Kelli (the tent design boss) were both out of the office so it was just me and their assistants Lynell and Casey. My day started off with stuffing a few save the dates and bringing them down to the post office to be sent out.



For the rest of the day I continued to work on the master list of contacts and companies that I had started before Spring Break. The list is broken up into different categories from accomodations to musicians to hair and makeup. With every contact or company listed on the sheets Lynell gave me I had to compose an Excell Spreadsheet to organize all of their informatin that I had to find. For each contact I included there website URL, the name of the contact at the company, and the phone number of the contact or the company. This list is not close to being done at all, if I'm lucky I might be half way finished with composing it. So I am guessing that I will be working on that when I work on Thursday.

Today was another very productive day at Exquisite Events. I spent the entire day on Lynell's computer updating the contact list on Microsoft Excell. I was able to update and finish the contact list by the time my day was over. Now the list is much more organized and up to date with the company.

Yesterday at my internship I didn't do anything that was too too exciting. The entire time I was there I had to put stuff wedding invitations. I learned two things from this, first I learned that wedding invitations are not just a little card telling you when the wedding is, the wedding invitations I worked on had the actual invitation and an RSVP letter to send back that was already stamped that went into an envelope then that envelope was then put into another envelope. This leads me to the second thing I learned, why there is two envelopes. The reason for two envelopes is because back in the day when mail would be passed around between so many people by the time it actually reached the person getting invited the envelope was dirty, so they would stuff an envelope inside the other envelope so that the guest would have a clean envelope that no one had touched. Even when doing simple tasks like stuffing envelopes I still find away to learn more about the wedding planning business.

Yesterday I had a very productive day at Exquiste Events. I spent the entire day on Lynell's, Stasia's assistant, computer which was a nice break from my very old HP laptop. While working on her computer I was using the program Microsoft outlook which was new to me so it was a great learning experience. I was using Microsoft outlook because in that program they basically have an electronic address book that holds all of Stasia's family, friends, clients, and vendors contact information, so it was my job to go in and clean out and edit all of the contacts. For each contact their should be their cell phone #, work phone #, home phone #, address of their home and business, as well as personal email and work email. Collecting all of this information was at moments frusterating but in the end I was able to complete about half of the contacts. The website whitepages.com was a huge help in finding businesses and all of their contact information. On Thursday I am sure I am going to be working on finishing up the contacts.

This past Tuesday I did a variety of different projects. I started off by writing out the addresses on each of the envelops that are going to be sent out to couples who are having their first anniversary. I am really happy with this project because it was all my own, I designed the card that is going to be sent to each couple and I am going to be the one to send them all out. After i was finished with that I finished up the vendor contact list for the last wedding.

Next I had to start working on the names for the different services that Equisite Event offers. The names for the services have to be decided as soon as possible because they are supposed to be on their new website, and their new website is supposed to launch on March 1st. For this project they had to me go through a wedding book that showcased all of the popular wedding planners in the area, I then had to go on their websites so I could get some ideas from the names of their services. However, most the current wedding planners have not gotten very creative when naming their services. Equisite Events will be one of the first companies taking this step towards being more creative with their company.

This past Thursday was very productive. Even though Stasia's assistant Lynell who usually gives me my daily projects was not there I still was able to get a lot of work done. It was actually a great chance for me to work one on one with Stasia.

So on this Thursday Stasia had me working on our vendor contact list. The vendor contact list is a list of all of the peoples cell phone's involved in putting the wedding together and making it work. This list is extremely important because on the day of the wedding Stasia will need need the most direct way to contact everyone. Also in most cases Stasia and her assistant Lynell will call all of the numbers on the vendor contact list. The vendor contact list ranges from the contact at the venue of the wedding to the trolley drives that will be transferring guests. This task of finding all of the vendors cell phone numbers was not easy. People are very wary to give out their cell phone numbers, but once I told them that I was with Exquisite Events and that I needed their number for a specific wedding the people were much more comfortable with giving me their cell phone numbers. All in all i was able to finish the vendor contact list for about eight weddings.

Today was a very productive day for me at Exquisite Events. My day started off by stamping all of the save the dates for an upcoming wedding, and taking them to the post office. My next task was to go through the year calendar and add the number of guest and the time of the event to each upcoming event. This is important because it allows Stasia to have an idea of how large the event is going to be, and what the time frame is.

Next I had to go through a list of hotels in and around newport to check for availability and to block hotel rooms for two upcoming events. While calling the hotels I had to make two excell spreadsheets, one with all of the contact information of the hotels that I called and one with the name of the hotel, the contact at the hotel, the number to the hotel, the rates for booking a room, and lastly how many rooms they could possibly block. This process was very informative and frustrating at the same time. It seemed like every hotel that I called didn't answer and I had to constantly leave voicemail's. Through this process it has taught me to be more patient and that when you want to get information from people or have people work on things you have to constantly be extremely persistent.

On Thursday I was very excited to get to work. After my first day there earlier that week I was already obsessed with my internship. Thursday I started off by picking up some save the date cards and stuffing them into envelopes. While I was stuffing the save the dates I had to also check to make sure the addresses on the envelopes were correct. This process is important for two reasons, first the save the date is the couples first impression to the guest and it needs to be perfect. The second reason why this process is important is because if the save the date has the wrong address on it it makes the couple and the wedding planner look bad, while also making the guest feel unimportant. Next I had to take all the events for the year and put it into a big excel spreadsheet to allow the wedding planner to feel more organized. Lastly, I worked on creating names for the various programs and services that Exquisite Events offers. I was able to use my creative side which was fun and I actually came up with a bunch of great titles that would work well for the company.

Leaving work on my second day I felt just as great about this internship as I did on my first day. I am already learning so much from just observing all of the little tasks I am doing and observing what Stasia the actual wedding planner is doing. I am looking forward to my next day at work.

First day

Today was the first day of my internship and I have already learned so much. I worked for 4 hours today but it flew by because of how much I enjoyed what I was working on. I was surprised when Stasia Anthony (the wedding planner and my "boss?") had me working on projects that they were actually going to use for their company and for their clients.

She had me start off by redesigning their promotional card which they would give to prospective clients. This was a little bit of a task for me considering that I do not have any graphic programs on my computer and had to use my 2003 version of Microsoft word to finish the project. In the end it looked great and I was happy I was able to make it work with my limited options. Next they had me redesign their cards that they send to their married clients after their one year anniversary. I thought this was a great because it allows Exquisite Events to reach out to their previous clients and reminds those clients that Exquisite Events would be a great company to refer people they know who are getting married or planning an event. Next I did some organizing; Stasia had me organize binders for their current clients that held all the information about their wedding or event. This allowed me to see how much really goes into planning a wedding or event, in most of the binders there was about 20 different sections that had to be attended to. I also got to work on some actual planning when I had to call few hotels in NYC to check on room situations for an upcoming wedding.

After only four hours of working I had fallen in love with Exquisite Events and Wedding/Event Planning. Through this internship I will become more creative, more organized and I will gain more interpersonal skills. Leaving Exquisite Events today I was excited and filled with creative ideas to share on my next work day.
